“In this digital print collection I explore my own ceramic art and pottery with a lens. The camera allows me to share elegant line and beauty found within the simplicity of a curve. Play with composition, light, and shadow creates a sense of female form. These feminine figurative ceramic abstracts break many of the “rules and expectations” of a ceramic artist and pose a few questions for what is acceptable. This is my ceramic art, I have created the forms, designed the scene using “Les Ensembles” as my muse, and this is my story, all me. I am asking saint Louis galleries for wall space, not a pedestal, I am asking art culture to accept a photo of a ceramic piece as the piece itself. I have changed my clay medium and ask to cross over in technicality yet staying true to my ceramic accomplishments. The passion in my work is evident through artistic manipulation of these images and my sculptural clay form.”
Dawson Morgan earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, with a specialty in hand built ceramics. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society and was awarded a Ford Fellowship in sculptural studies. Eventually she moved to Lausanne Switzerland where she worked with other European artists. She rented studio space in Pully, Switzerland and exhibited her artwork on the shores of Lake Geneva. Presently Dawson continues her passion for ceramic form in her Saint Louis, Missouri (Chesterfield) studio, established in 2009.
